Not sure if this is grappling oriented or striking so I decided to post here. Are there ways to fight off your back besides going for better position or submissions? To keep the fight on it's feet from your back, so to speak.

???are you suggesting to hang on for dear life, stall the fight & hopefully the referee brings the fight back on the feet? drill some sweeps i guess.

I dunno, maybe just keep the guy from getting any ground and pound in until you can get up and fight?

i don't train mma but maybe if the guy inside your guard has no base you can bear hug him then sit down then go for the butter fly guard. at least you won't get hit since your face(facing to the side to avoid chokes)is on his chest.

break down his posture and wait for the referee to restart the fight. (i.e. Bas Rutten vs. Kevin Randleman)

again, shiya is not affiliated with 10thpjj & bravo. he's an awesome judoka & bjj'er himself. black belt in both.

i don't want to act like the bjj police. but i've seen that vid & i have aoki's grappling instructional for gi & nogi. he talked more about his judo extensively. if a gracie-barra student attends a royler seminar that doesn't mean his affiliated with humaita. & i'll be rockin my paraestra shirt at urcc this saturday. WOOT!!
