static. more important in the grappling arts than in striking, in my opinion. it lets you manipulate yourself much better when tangled up with another person. flexibility training has always been an integral part of my training, which is probably how i give people trouble in grappling. mutant flexibility has bailed me out of tight situations many times.

any other advocates of flexibility here?

i've read that long static stretching isn't good for you. i've never done it since &  never experienced cramps while doing dynamic stretching.

i am flexible and all but i still need that strength

but i'm able to last a five minute roll with the 4 stripers and even some blue belts in my school with flexibility alone...

they find it hard to trap me in their z guard... ^_^

you could lose up to 30% of your strength. i'll post the link of the article. but maybe you could just google it...too lazy. Grin

oh, that. note that you lose muscle strength immediately after the stretch. so taking that into consideration, here are a few stretching guidelines:

> never stretch cold muscles. they don't go as far.
> always stretch after your workout.
> exhale and relax. everyone was born to be able to do full splits. the stretch reflex tightens muscles when they go farther than your comfort zone.
> hold the stretch at its most painful for a few seconds until it does not hurt as much, inhale, and stretch further with a sigh of relief.
> always stretch after your workout.

by the way, i never stretch prior to my workouts. i use mostly joint mobility exercises and static stretching after. and i have phenomenal flexibility.

you're not likely to pull this off without adequate flexibility:

What about those realistic fuck dolls? They can be good for grappling, just... don't get turned on.

the DEFTAC in Sucat has one? i see...

is it only good in showing how to do a choke/lock?

rolling still is best right since you have someone who is really fighting out of your hold?

drilling will improve your technique.
rolling is where you test said techniques.

drilling is like studying for an exam. rolling is like actually taking the exam. you're not going anywhere if you don't know anything.
