You guys familiar with Igor Vovchanchin "The Russian Freight Train"? He and Fedor Emelianenko have the same style of punches, a kind of looping style that hits with the thumb side of the hand first. Its sort of a hybrid over hand hook or something.

The movement is initiated with the shoulders then whips the entire arm till the hand hits the target.

Anyone familiar with this style of boxing/ Punching? Where it originated? So far Ive seen fedor, vovchanchin and eventually Nakamura (Pride fighter) punch this way. Im not sure, but I think Sergei Kharitonov also punches the same way. Mostly russians.

I think its pretty effective in MMA, more so than traditional boxing. Case in point: Fedor vs Arlovski.

Yup, I think that's the Russian style of boxing. You can also see it being used by Sidelnikov "Baby Fedor".

I was expecting Igor and Fedor to fight in Pride.

we have our own version here, going under the name of "Bolo Punches."

Shane Mosley and Sugar Ray Leonard are also using the bolo punch.
